Paul Ord

Paul Ord is Researcher in the School of Health and Life Sciences at Glasgow Caledonian University. His research interests include digital mortality, the broader sociology of death and dying, biopolitics, learning disabilities, and mental health. In addition to his academic work Paul writes poetry and creative non-fiction, usually on the themes of temporality, memory, and wellbeing. Other things he enjoys are running, coffee, listening to Radio 4, and trying to speak Polish. He lives in Glasgow with his partner, a mental health professional and artist.

Algorithmic Hauntings is part of Paul’s ongoing attempt to make sense of the ways in which our experience of the dead, death and bereavement is increasingly shaped by the dominant social media of our time. Drawing on memoir, psychological and sociological studies, and the emergent field of digital anthropology, Algorithmic Hauntings will comprise a reflective and lyrical exploration of the dead online; their nature, their aesthetic, and their unexpected – often discomforting –
reappearances among the living.
