Mary Paulson-Ellis
Mary Paulson-Ellis writes novels about people who die with no next-of-kin. She has an MLitt in Creative Writing from Glasgow University, and her work has featured in the Guardian and on BBC Radio 4. In 2019 Val McDermid named her one of ten compelling LGBTQ+ writers working today.
To expand the universe of my novels into the audio, televisual and/or digital realm. My primary topic is what I call the ‘territory of the dead’ - the world of those who die with no next-of-kin. My main body of writing is a series of novels set in Edinburgh which mix literary, historical and crime fiction tropes to bring the stories from this world into the light. My goal with this project is to use these novels as the basis for a fresh piece of dramatic writing that will make this territory accessible to a new audience.
