I want to explore the embodiment of grief, particularly through the unreal or fantastical. I’m writing a collection of short stories inspired by Scottish folklore. Each story uses elements of surrealism, fairy tales, and the Gothic to explore grief and loss. I’m very interested in the relationship between Scottish fairies and the dead. In Scottish folklore, it seems that fairyland and Death are muddled up. Scottish folklore feels like the perfect foundation on which to write about grief.
